boston day 5
hDay 5 already?
I have been been really lucky with weather on this trip. It’s been fabulous. I think it’s scheduled to rain the day I leave. I’d like to think that’s Boston mourning my departure ;)
The first thing I did on day 5 was head out to Harvard to go to church. They had a bunch of wards meeting at the same time so it was pretty packed.
Not only was the sun shining on me- but fortune was too- the church building was right across the street from the Longfellow house!
How serendipitous. Meant to happen. Pure happenstance. Through I suppose I should’ve known- because the name of the street was Longfellow... next to a Longfellow park. How do you suppose that last name came to be?
The Longfellow House is famous for being the headquarters of Gen George Washington during the Revolutionary War. Henry Wadsworth came along later as a boarder in the house and thought it was cool he was staying in Washington’s old room. He was a professor at Harvard and he decided to buy the house eventually.
So I spent the morning at church, perusing the grounds of the Longfellow house, and walking Longfellow street.
I listened to Disney music and musicals the whole time.

After wandering the streets at light, I went to a restaurant called Mei Mei to try something the internet called a ‘double awesome’.
I had had tried to go to the restaurant the day before, but they were closed for a private event. It was kind of out of the way too- but I felt a strange pull.. an urge... a longing... all the synonyms... I felt drawn to try again. So I did.
I walked led up to the counter and ordered without looking at the menu to see what a DOuble AwEsome was. Noodles? Rice? After all it was a Chinese place.
My experience? It was awesome. Perhaps even doubly so. It would make the list of the top 3 things I’ve eaten in Boston.
the meat is bacon but from the shoulder of the pig- which apparently is a bigger deal- there was cheese... mozerella? Fried egg, the sauce wasn’t sweet- but the flatbread was real good.
I might try try to recreate this. If not with my hands then in my dreams

I also spent about an hour in the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum. Basically Isabella was a Bostonian who was fairly wealthy around the turn of the century (not this one, the last one). She was really good at collecting art. Like apparently she knew her stuff. When she died she wanted her collection turned into a museum and in her will she stipulated they had to leave everything as it was- they couldn’t move stuff around.
Also 27 years ago 13 pieces of art where stolen from the museum and they still haven’t been recovered. Dun dun dunnn
I am less of an art fan and more of a history fan- so I didn’t find the pieces particularly moving (that would be freaky if they were literally moving right?) but I loved the courtyard and the furniture pieces :)

I then went to Blackbird Doughnuts and got some doughnuts.
are the food-pictures getting kind of ridiculous? I feel like it’s getting kind of ridiculous... but most of the things I have put in my face are so good! I want you to know about them!
There is a antique market every Sunday in the South End and it was amazing! Nice stuff... some of it was kind of random- but it was really cool to walk around... I went around twice
Upstairs in the same building they had a few floors that were filled with rooms for artists to rent. They would leave their doors open while they worked so people could walk in and look around.
This building then led to a little mall that actually had a millinery shop! #CherriesAndFeathersToCatchABeauiSuppose
Then there were a bunch of tents in the back set up with cute booths for baby clothes or mini cacti 🌵 plants.
A shopper’s paradise (Weird Al parody?) I took some videos of the vintage market but they are pretty fast and it’s hard to see anything. I guess I was just too excited 😆

I finished the day watching the sunset by the river and writing in my journal. Sunday was a good day
