nyc day 2
It’s our second day in New York! We were much more energetic and the weather was beautiful for most of the day. Win-win.
The first thing we we did was head to Rockefeller Center and walk around. The gardens outside were awesome 👏

I'm writing this from the future. Well, I'm writing about day 2 when it's actually day 3 and I'm already having a hard time distinguishing the activities we did. The days are already starting to blend together 🎨
Yesterday had some awesome weather- we walked around Rockefeller Center and the garden out back. Then we stumbled upon St Patrick’s Cathedral. The blue stained glass windows were amazing!

After walking around the cathedral we went to lunch at a café called Serendipity 3. This little café is famous for being where the couple in the movie SERENDIPITY meet. It’s been a loooong time since I’ve seen the movie and I don’t remember how it ends. Or begins actually. I do remember Kate Beckinsdale though. Speaking of famous actresses.... :)
At the restaurant we sat nearby a very cute family and Maren and Haley figured out the lady nearby was an actress from different TV shows they've seen. Famous! Of course we would see someone famous in NYC! And lest you question our deducing skills... when we were in line waiting to get in I learned her husbands name, so when we IMDb'd (ya it's a verb) it we confirmed the facts. He was extremely nice.
Believe it or not, we actually didn't go to spot television stars- we went for the food and this café had some real delicious food. We each ordered something different so we could share- buttermilk chicken sandwich, Mac n' cheese, and chicken pot pie. All were delightful. Serendipity is famous for their frozen hot chocolate so we ordered a couple of those...

After the café we went to see WAITRESS! I’m not sure how much I should gush about it here... but I loved it! The ending was heartwarming and the characters were very relatable. Nice job Sara Bareilles! I shed a tear. That used to be rare, but I seem to cry more easily nowadays 😭
After the musical we went back to Times Square to find a black and white cookie- we found a little bakery called Val’s. The gentleman who worked the register was very kind, and maybe it skewed my opinion that the prices were pretty great as well! It was more tiny-convienience store/bakery but I found it a very fine establishment. And it allowed Haley to finally find the black and white cookie of her dreams :)
We took our cookies to the New York Public Library and took a bite outside on the steps- I suggested we do it to create a memory. Poetically eating the cookie we scoured the city for on the steps of the library. Those are the kinds of things I like to do on my trips :)
We explored the library and obviously I loved the archtecture and the ceiling paintings and the wood paneling. Mmmm.
You will never guess what we saw there!! You’ll never guess because it’s a little obscure but also awesome. Deep in the basement (bottom level) in a dark unexplored corner- behind a *metaphorical* curtain- there’s a children’s reading room (in the New York Public Library). And in that room there’s a painted wall. On that wall there’s a story. A story of the real Christopher Robin. And next to the wall is a glass case. A glass case filled with old-fashioned stuffed animals. Ya we saw the ORIGINAL Pooh, Eyore, Tigger, Kanga, and piglet!! Cool right? The library was awesome. The ceilings in each room were pretty amazing.
After the NYPL we went to a restaurant on Times Square called Carmines- a pasta place served family-style. It came recommended by a New York native we spoke to on the plane so we figured it was a good place to add to our list. Up to day 3 we’ve only eaten at Italian places and burger joints- I am a fan of those cuisines but I think we’re going to try to switch it up tomorrow :)
Carmines will be hard to beat though- we got parmesan portobello mushrooms covered in a red sauce for our appetizer and then we ordered cheese ravioli with a red meat sauce for our main dish. Both were very good. The cheese inside the ravioli was light and creamy and the sauce had like 4 different types of tiny pieces of meat. That's how meat should be eaten ladies and gentlemen. In a sauce, on pasta. Anybody who disagrees can fight me on that :)

I know I overuse words like 'awesome' and 'delicious' but I still think about the ravioli and meat sauce we shared. That fateful night. In a restaurant as old as I am. (the sign on the door said 'established 1990, which is when I was also established) How fitting a celebration for my half birthday.🤓🎈
After Carmines we called it a night (because it was one). On our way home, some men on the street were trying to entice customers to go to a comedy show- one of them notices us and opens with the line: “Hey! Do you like comedy and black people?” What an opening line. So I said ‘yes’ with a smile as I finger-gunned and walked away. To which he called after us 'hey you seem normal! Where are you from?' Laugh. out. loud. (that's what I did)
Day 2 was a beautiful. And our wonderful Italian restaurant (bottle of red, bottle of white...🎶 🍷 ) + another picture in Times Square was a wonderful ending to day 2. Buckle up for day 3 because there were a TON of pictures taken!
